I can pretty much sum up this book the following way: DAMNYOUCLIFFHANGERSBUTHOLYHELLTHATWASAMAZEBALLS. I went into this book knowing it was outside of my typical genre. I honestly anticipated a bit of a fluffy Romeo and Juliet-esque type of read. I couldn't have been more wrong. Jennifer Anne Davis absolutely blew me away with The Key. The character development was phenomenal, the plot was an absolute page turner and the heroine was probably one of my ALL TIME favorites. It is typically very4.5 StarsHeres a few things you need to know about The Key when you start it. Its a series, so yes the book will end on a cliffhanger. Im not spoiling anything from you because that warning was screamed at me prior to reading the book.This is a YA book, so the steam is not there and the romance is mild, but plenty good in my opinion.Theres a lot that goes on in the book, but it worked for me completely.Reading YA fantasy books are something you have to be in the mood for and I was on the hunt
Actual rating: 3.5 stars I had very low expectations for this book but it turned out quite well. This is by no means a literary masterpiece - the writing occasionally reminded me of fanfiction (good facfic but still), it has almost zero plot and the mystery itself is non existent since we know the main twist from the beginning.And yet...It's fun XD It has all the tropes: long lost princess, damsel in distress, ruthless guy who's actually not that ruthless and has a soft spot for the girl, evil
I am completely disappointed. What a one-dimensional story. Not everything is black and white. I didn't particularly like any of the characters. The mystery was too obvious and the insta-love made me want to stop reading it. I just...I just don't even know what to say. I don't want too sound too harsh or anything but the writing wasn't that good and the characters were either brave and perfect or evil and completely flawed.
