When 13 year-old Penelope Gilbert accidentally transforms into a stapler during math class, she’s sure she's going crazy. But she’s not imagining the men in black suits now patrolling the halls at school, nor is she imagining the new substitute teacher who orders the class to take a special new test. A test that requires blood. Hunted for her powers, and torn from the life she knows, Penny is swept up into a world in the clouds where magic meets machine and pirates rule the sky.

Commentary Regarding Books Penelope Gilbert and the Children of Azure
Penelope Gilbert and the Children of Azure is a kid's (maybe middle-grade reader) fantasy/ adventure novel with a 13-year-old heroine. I thought that the beginning was a bit dark, but very much enjoyed the adventures and the fantasy world that Penny was swept up into as the book progressed. The final words are "End of Book One," suggesting that there are more adventures yet to come for Penny and her friends. Mixed children of mortal and magical parents are referred to as Pythians. They hail from the land of Azure, but some of them were sent to Earth (a.k.a. Terra) for protection. What's worse is that the evil Lord Esmond sends his henchmen to various schools to sniff out children with such powers; he wants them eliminated. It is not long before most of them are captured and sent to Azure for slaughter. Four who managed to escape, Penny, Cain, Pete, and Haldon, know that they have to try and rescue

Great book for children! I loved how the author was able to create different characters. The story was unique and fun. I would recommend this book to anyone!

It's a great read for kids and adults (I'm 37; I should know). It reminds me of Harry potter wrapped up with the mutant children from the xmen stories. Kids who begin to realize they have special powers soon find themselves in jeopardy and on the run from scary men in black and other shady authority figures.

Penelope Gilbert and the Children of Azure, is the delightful first novel by author Emily A. Steward and artist Chad Steward, a husband and wife team. It takes place in a fictional world divided into two levels, Earth and Azure, separated by a rending wind that prevents travel between them except through magical tunnels. Azure has been taken over by an evil insane despot who wants all magic for himself, draining and killing everyone who possesses it. But some rebel and secretly send their
